Week At A Glance, 1962

This is a daily dairy that my grandmother, Mary Bailey Adair maintained. I am amazed on how many family members she and my grandfather, Earl Adair, visited that year. There were many miles put on the VW bus that year.

 

January 1 - February 4

Highlights: Milwaukee, Chicago, home (Redding), Centerville, Omaha, Grand Island, Bird City, Denver

Jan 1, in Milwaukee with daughter Alice Adair Johnson. Other daughter’s family (Margaret Adair & Marvin Kruse) drove up from Chicago area

Jan 4, Supper at Vernice’s (probably Vernice Bailey Wood, her first cousin) in Chicago area

Jan 8, N.R. Miller funeral (should be family, but I cannot find)

Jan 12, Steffen Adair (grandson) started to walk

Jan 16, Called at Bert Defenbaugh (he married Dora May Miller, daughter of Alexander Tardy Miller, nephew of H.T. Miller)

Jan 23, Went to Centerville to see Uncle Billy (son of H.T. Miller)

Feb 2-3, Went to Denver to see Sam & Jessie Adair (Sam is brother of Earl)

Feb 3, Maurice, June & Edwin for dinner (Maurice is nephew of Earl)

February 5 - March 4

Highlights: Denver, Raton, Albuquerque, Truth or Consequences, Willcox, La Mesa, San Diego

Feb 26, Called on Etheldean (daughter of Arthur Cartland Bailey, brother of Mary) in California, probably San Diego

Feb 27, Followed Stuart & Helen Hoover to Escondido (more relatives)

Mar 2, Overnight with Denhart’s (maybe John & Vada, she is daughter of Vergie Adair, Earl’s first cousin)

Mar 3, Evening at Bettys (daughter of Arthur Bailey)

March 5 - April 2

Highlights: Vista, Oceanside, Ramona, Los Angeles, Whittier, San Diego, Vista, La Mesa, Tijuana, National City, Borrego Springs, Salton Sea, Coachella, Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Anaheim

Mar 10, Met Marian (probably Marian Cartland, Mary’s first cousin) at hotel in Los Angeles

Mar 26, Supper with Ed & Jo Mosher. The Mosher family married into cousin Kenoyer family

April 3 - May 6

Highlights: San Juan Capistrano , Mount Palomar, Oceanside, Vista, Escondido, Banning, Needles, Amboy, Kingman, Ashfork, Albuquerque, Clovis, Friona, Omaha

Apr 5, Back to Vista, California and brother Arthur Bailey and his wife

Apr 13-20, In Friona, Texas with Earl’s uncle/aunt, Arthur Drake/Bessie Miller and their family

Apr 28, Cousin Charlie Hoover died yesterday

Aug 12, Miller reunion (Lee Saville is Earl’s cousin. BTW Lee’s sister Ruth is alive in Mt. Ayr, Iowa at age 90. Another sibling is Clyde. Their father is Bernard Saville)

Aug 14, The Warden family married into Miller family. The Arneal family married into Hoover family

Aug 17, Floyd Adair is 1st cousin of Earl

September 3 - September 30

This is the 1963 daily dairy that my grandmother, Mary Bailey Adair maintained. The year started in their ‘snowbird’ place in/near Eureka Springs, Arkansas in the Ozarks. Played games like Somerset, Pinochle, Chinese Checkers, Canasta, Bridge.

 

January 1 - February 3

Highlights: Ozarks

Year started with 60 degrees temperatures, but by third week in January the temperature was below zero. See temperature log on the 28th.

Jan 1, Dinner with Jennette (Mary’s sister) & Chris Drescher (J. & C.)

 

February 4 - March 3

Feb 4, Warm and sunny

Feb 5, At the park, played Somerset with no coats on.

Feb 24, Took Kruse’s to Springfield & 2 Mountain Home (?)
