Dear Vernice,

     Your letter of last Christmas is still on my desk and I think it is still unanswered so I’ll make sure it is answered before another year [?]. Glad to know something about you all for I have had any idea what you girls were up to. I had bit of fleeting glimpse of you and Myrtle in ’32 the morning Martha Berry drove me into Salem to see your [...] of the family. All of the preceding generation is prone [?] to the rewards [...] the next grade for more advanced lessons and to digest and assimilate what they get out of this day at school they had.

     I’m glad to know you are the teaching profession. The country need the best it can get. After a few years in the Quaker Academies as[?] a starvation income I spent three years as Supt of Schools so know something of the problems we had then. Thank goodness they were nothing like they are today. Of course in the lower grades the youngsters are better behaved and sociable.

     Since ’23 I have been in college or University teaching and research mostly teaching Physics until I retired and since then classes in Meta Physics with the object of understanding Physics as the basis for Meta Physics as laws are universal throughout the Universe whether molecular or meta molecular electronic or meta electronic.

     I presume you have not gone into these metaphysical questions and answers. They are far from the old University metaphysics and orthodoxy. I am well acquainted with the work of Dr. Baine[?] and his wife. He came to San Jose when I was there and we spent a day in the [...]. In the evening I took him to our laboratory where we were working on the magnetism of water. I could tell you of a very interesting outcome of the experiment that evening. It is a long story and I won’t take up your time.

     You see I have been looking for all that could be found that was of a truly META PHYSICAL nature. I am very well acquainted with the orthodox points of view and I can never accept some of them. I had a letter from uncle Herbert when I was in Fes[?] College relative to the value of Science.

     I answered him and told him there would be a time coming when Science would corroborate everything in the Bible was fact. I have lived to see that to be true which means that the orthodox points of view are taken from a wrong translation, a translation that has proved to be false is ordinarly [sic] understood. If you would ever read THE SECRET SCIENCE BEHIND MIRACLES {Ed.Note: I included link} by Max Freedom Long and a few of his other books you would KNOW what I mean. There are MUCH deeper meanings than the translations used. Try to get that book from the library or state library. It will cost you only the postage on the book for a two week loan. But I warn you if you read it you will no longer be a very orthodox Quaker. I surely am not nor have I been even before I left Penn. However orthodoxy has changed since then and it has some more changing to do in the years to come.

     There are secret school and always have been. There are truths that would not be safe in the hands of the masses. [...] was a member of a Secret Order and that is a well established to them who knew THE KEY. That has been kept hidden from all except a few and that key was found in [...] in the language which dates back thousands of years.

     I don’t know what you know of my background since leaving Penn. But I know that the most important thing to those who yearn[?] for the secret and will use it rightly will be those who have found it.

     The second book I have read of Longs is THE SECRET SCIENCE AT WORK. It will pay you to get these books from your state library through your  local city library.

     I am very happy that all three of my girls are so very interested in the deeper things of life as I and my wife’s daughter also.

Maurine, my wife was also a member of the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis AMORC before I met her and also her sister. I became a member in ’32 as a result of conversations Ethel Harry and I had on our way to California. She mailed me a clipping about AMORC and I wrote for information and immediately sent in my application and was accepted and a year or so later was asked to assist in getting the RC University started. I was Dean for several years and taught the science behind metaphysical teaching. Then later was asked to start the National Academy of Metaphysics in Los Angeles with Dr. Russell. He was one of the most advanced teachers of metaphysics that I ever had at [...] spiritual. Gave his teachings to those who were ready for them and no secrecy any more than Calculus. One has to be prepared for any new knowledge. If this letter is a stimulant to you I will be happy. I have 60 years of these teachings behind me so know something of them however much there is yet that I don’t know. The more we know the more we find there is TO KNOW.

     Hope this letter doesn’t tire you out and also hope it will strike a responsive card, Vernice. I feel quite sure that your sister, Myrtle, is in a work that she want to change. Everyone has his niche. Anytime you feel like writing do so. I have more time to write than you do I’m sure. I’m pushing 86 and the most that I do is write.
